NUST INTERNATIONAL VISITING FACULTY PROGRAM
About the Program
The NUST International Visiting Faculty Program is a flagship internationalization initiative designed to bring accomplished scholars from around the world to engage with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. The program enables international faculty members to join NUST for a semester-long appointment or a short-term academic visit to contribute to teaching excellence, collaborative research, student mentorship, and institutional capacity building.
Through this program, NUST aims to foster global academic collaboration, enrich its teaching and research environment, and strengthen long-term partnerships with leading international scholars and institutions.
The program is administered and coordinated by the NUST International Office, ensuring comprehensive academic, administrative, and onboarding support for visiting faculty throughout their stay.
Program Objectives and Mission
The mission of the NUST International Visiting Faculty Program is to strengthen NUST’s academic ecosystem through meaningful international engagement. Visiting faculty are expected to contribute to the university’s core missions in the following ways:
- Deliver high-quality teaching and academic instruction aligned with NUST curricula
- Engage in collaborative research with NUST faculty and research groups
- Participate in joint supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Contribute to faculty development through seminars, workshops, and academic talks
- Support institutional capacity building and international best-practice sharing
- Engage, where relevant, with industry and innovation initiatives linked to NUST’s ecosystem
The program is designed to be flexible while maintaining strong academic rigor and institutional alignment.

The program is open to all academic disciplines offered at NUST. Visiting faculty may be hosted by any school, college, department, center, or institute across NUST H-12 campus and other NUST campuses.

Host departments are selected based on academic fit, departmental needs, and alignment with the visiting faculty member’s expertise.
Types of Appointments
Semester Visiting Faculty Appointment
This is the primary track of the program and involves a full academic semester engagement at NUST.
- Minimum duration: One academic semester
- Focus: Teaching and research collaboration
- Engagement: Course delivery, student supervision, research collaboration, seminars, and academic activities
This track is ideal for faculty members seeking deeper academic integration and sustained collaboration with NUST.
Short-Term Visiting Faculty Appointment
This track is designed for focused academic engagements.
- Minimum duration: Two months
- Focus: Intensive teaching modules, workshops, proposal development, or academic seminars
Short-term visits allow flexibility while ensuring meaningful academic contribution.
Eligibility Criteria
The NUST International Visiting Faculty Program is open and inclusive. Eligibility requirements are intentionally broad to encourage global participation.
- Applicants must hold a PhD degree from a reputable institution
- Applicants of all nationalities can apply
- There is no minimum experience requirement; fresh PhD graduates may apply
- Postdoctoral experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Industry professionals holding a PhD are also eligible.
Semester Timelines and Application Cycle
The program operates on rolling basis, allowing applications throughout the year.
Academic Semesters
- Spring Semester: January to June
- Fall Semester: September to the first week of January
Short-Term Visits
- Can commence at any time of the year
- Minimum duration of two months
Application Processing
Once a complete application is received, the typical processing time, including review, shortlisting, interview, and decision, is 1-2 months.
Academic Roles and Responsibilities of Visiting Faculty
Teaching Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities are defined in coordination with the host department prior to arrival. Course assignments are based on departmental needs and the visiting faculty member’s expertise. Teaching load may vary and may include full courses, modular teaching, or guest lectures.
Research and Collaboration
Visiting faculty are expected to actively engage in research collaboration with NUST faculty. This includes:
- Access to relevant laboratories and research facilities through host departments
- Joint research projects and collaborative publications
- Development of joint grant proposals and research initiatives.
Mentorship and Academic Engagement
Visiting faculty are encouraged to:
- Co-supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students
- Conduct academic seminars, workshops, or faculty development sessions
- Participate in interdisciplinary academic activities
End-of-Assignment Deliverables
At the completion of the appointment, visiting faculty are expected to submit:
- A final academic report summarizing teaching and research outcomes
- At least one public seminar or academic talk
- Course materials and academic content developed during the visit.
Compensation, Benefits, and Support
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided through NUST’s associated mess facilities, which are comparable to a three-star standard.
Subsidized accommodation rates typically range between PKR 15,000 and PKR 30,000 per month, subject to availability. Messing will be available for visiting faculty and cost will be borne by themselves.
Compensation
Visiting faculty receive a salary ranged between 200,000 PKR-350,000 PKR.
Visa and Arrival Support
The NUST International Office will provide:
- Official visa invitation and facilitation letters
- Coordination support for arrival and onboarding
- Airport pick-up arrangements upon arrival in Pakistan
Airfare Support
Applicants are expected to cover for their airfare funding as it’s not included by default. However, airfare may be covered for applicants supported through the MSTF track, subject to MSTF policies and approval.

- Applications are submitted electronically
- Applicants will receive an automatic acknowledgement email upon submission
- Applications may also be submitted through MSTF where applicable
- Visa approval normally takes 1-3 months so applicants should apply at least 4 months ahead of time considering the processing of visa timeline.

- Proposed teaching plan or course proposal
- List of publications (if any)
All documents must be submitted through the online application portal.
Selection and Interview Process
Applications are evaluated based on:
- Teaching quality and academic credentials
- Research publications and scholarly profile
- Alignment with NUST’s academic and institutional needs.
Interview
Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview conducted by a panel convened by the NUST International Office.
The panel is chaired by the Pro-Rector (Academics) and includes representatives from:
- NUST International Office
- Human Resources
- Relevant Head of Department
Legal and Administrative Framework
Selected visiting faculty members are issued an official employment contract by NUST.
All visiting faculty are required to adhere to the NUST Code of Conduct during their appointment.
Family and Dependents
Visiting faculty may bring family dependents. Housing support may be facilitated based on availability however, all accommodation costs for dependents are borne by the visiting faculty member.
